Firefighters Union – IAFF Local 1165

Santa Clara County Fire Department has evolved from a District run mostly of farmers/ranchers to a strong organization with more than 300 employees.

Through Department growth, needs arose for organized advocacy for firefighter safety, staffing, equipment and supplies. This need was answered by the creation of the IAFF Local 1165 Firefighters Union, now known as Santa Clara County Firefighters Local 1165.

Today, Santa Clara County Fire Department is ranked as one of the top Departments in the nation for services provided to our customers, safe working conditions, and employee wages and benefits.

In addition to the dedication to their members, Santa Clara County Firefighters Local 1165 also dedicates a tremendous amount of time and effort to the community by hosting annual barbecues and fundraising events. Local 1165 is an active participant in the political process and maintains an awareness of all issues facing firefighter safety, working conditions, and other firefighter-related concerns. Executive board members make annual trips to Washington D.C. and Sacramento to lobby congressional and legislative representatives to ensure the voices of the membership and community are heard.
